When the first fragmentary remains of Lycorhinus were discovered, they displayed long canine teeth in addition to small chisel like teeth. Because of this, it was originally thought to be a type of cynodont. It wasn't until the later discovery of the closely related Heterodontosaurus was it realized that it was in fact a dinosaur.
