57--Kaine by Green-Mamba 57--Kaine by Green-Mamba
Right, after the Tarantula incident, shit goes south pretty fast for Peter regarding these clones.  I'll try to keep everything as brief as I possibly can, but I warn you, this one's a long one (as I have a lot of ground I want to cover):

New spider people start appearing all over New York--some helpful, some less so.  One of the most prominent is one who goes around killing criminals that Spider-man would have normally apprehended.  Unlike the Tarantula, who was convinced he was someone else, this one is entirely convinced he's Peter Parker--but his mind is damaged alongside his body.  A lot of the other clones are similarly mentally unstable--but this one, who the Scarlet Spider refers to as "Kaine," emerges as their de facto leader.  The spider people all start aligning with either Kaine or Peter and the Scarlet Spider, and and an all out war is engaged.  Peter's side manages to get the upper hand, and when it's apparent the fight is nearly over, the people behind the clones put a stop to everything.
Their creator is revealed to be Miles Warren (duh).  The mysterious foreign power that freed him from prison bank rolled it-- a group known as the Scriers.  They were the group that had originally sold the "perfect DNA" sample to Osborn that he had used to create the Oz formula originally, and the "Spider Totem" that Tarantula claimed to run and the fraudulent shell company called "WebCorps" were both arms of the Scriers.  They were also the group that had hired the Chameleon to spy on Oscorp.
But more shocking to Peter than Warren being behind the clones was that Norman Osborn himself was not only alive (having been presumed dead) but that he was in charge of the Scriers and was behind the whole clone saga.  Osborn had faked his death after killing Gwen Stacy, and left the country to take over the Scriers himself.  He found little resistance within the group and easily rose to the top.  He was the one who had Warren freed and start his clone project--Osborn desired a super soldier force of his own, one that could follow his every whim and allow him to defeat his opposition as he pleased.  The Beetle had been hired by Osborn to gather some of his old Oscorp technology to help in Warren's cloning project.
The clones themselves were based on the rapid self replication of the carnage symbiote Warren had made, which was partially built off of Peter's genetic code to begin with, which made cloning him rather simple.  Kaine was one of their earliest attempts, but his body began decomposing and breaking down, so he was installed into a suit to keep his decomposition in check.  When they later perfected the process (resulting in perfect replications like the Tarantula) they started messing around to see what variations they could build, among these was the Scarlet Spider--she is a female clone of Peter (think Ultimate Spider-Woman).  Beyond that, they began using other means to wipe the clones' memories and replace them with new identities, but the escape of the Scarlet Spider led to plans being scuttled.
Getting back to Osborn's plan--when he took over the Scriers, he apparently found the identity source donor of the "perfect DNA" he had been sold: someone named "Ezekiel Sims."  While Sims was listed as the owner of WebCorps, he was nowhere to be found in the Scriers organization itself.  Osborn surmised that Sims, if he truly existed, had either fled the organization when Osborn got there or was pulling the strings from beyond where even Osborn was privy to.  He was to be Osborn's first target after Spider-man's death.
But that was all for naught--the clones are defeated, and the federal government comes in and puts the situation under their control.  To try to wrap this all up real quick, the result of this clone saga is as follows:
-Most of the clones are dead
-Miles Warren is killed by Kaine
-Norman Osborn's identity is outed and is imprisoned
-The Scriers are completely captured by the federal government and all of their assets are seized
-Peter's identity as Spider-man becomes known to the federal government and is placed on their watch list
-Kaine and the Scarlet Spider both survive and are held by the federal government indefinitely for the moment

Whew, that was quite a bit of verbal diarrhea.  Did you catch all that?

Anyway, Kaine!  It took me a while to come up with how I was going to approach him, and I decided that a more grounded rendition of his original design was for the best.  The mask was based heavily on the Winter Soldier's from the second Captain America film!  Above all I wanted him to be kind of gross and creepy--the crooked spider symbol on his chest is supposed to look like he carved it himself, as he is obsessed with being Spider-man.  I didn't mention it earlier but Kaine was responsible for the deaths of some villains as well, but that will come at a later date, as will some other clones here and there.  For now I'm moving on to different characters.

And sorry for all that fanfiction up there but this was conceived by me to be a big turning point in this story I got in my head, where all the original mystery starts to get unraveled--the clones, Warren, Osborn, Oz, Spider-man--it all starts to connect back to this original "perfect DNA."

i like the concept of a future parker, though i think i would have him climbing the corporate ladder in alchemax before he starts using anti-aging drugs--like the atmosphere of working with the monstrous executives in alchemax has taken its toll on him and he becomes a monster himself.

outside of that i really like the idea.  something for normal peter to struggle to *not* be.  something he absolutely has to prevent himself from becoming.

What do you do to outline and color them?
I've tried outlining some of my drawings in Photoshop but can't get them to look good.
I have no idea how to use the pen tool properly, and whenever I try just using the brush over it it's always unsteady and bumpy.

i use the brush tool, but i'm slow and inefficient and spend more time than i should cleaning them to look really smooth.  i also work at a larger resolution than seen here--the pictures i upload are half the size of what they were when i was working on them.  shrinking down helps make them look cleaner than they actually are.

i also have a fairly idiosyncratic thing i do with my finished lineart--i turn the opacity of my lineart layer down to like 70% after i'm all done.  after finishing shading i find the original dark black lines to be kind of distracting, so i tone them down.  this also helps make the lineart look cleaner.

Who are you planning to include for the other clones besides Scarlet Spider, Tarantula, and Kaine? BTW, is Tarantula among the dead clones or is he simply imprisoned by the gov?

i don't want to reveal some of the other clones i have planned (as they're characters who aren't normally clones, so it'll be a surprise) but i do plan on doing spidercide but he won't be drawn for a while yet.

and tarantula's among the dead.  i should have specified that.

How did the Clones, including Tarantula, die?

i don't have super specifics but in general, some die during the battle (as some of the clones don't have a problem with killing), some are killed by the scriers and perhaps warren and osborn themselves in an attempt to control the situation, and many are gunned down by the federal government.

Really, really, REALLY! like the design, though i have to mention: How come he has blood in both his hands and feets? I'd think is because he just killed someone, but it could also be due to the fact that his abilitties are an augmentation of that of Peter's (for all i know, it could be due to the Mark of Kaine)

it is due to his wall sticking abilities going into overdrive combined with his body's degradation.  the suit protects him but he has removed the coverings on his hands and feet to allow him to weaponize them better (a la mark of kaine) but because his body is so far damaged he wraps the areas in bandages to help stymie the damage.
