092--EUOPLOCEPHALUS TUTUS by Green-Mamba 092--EUOPLOCEPHALUS TUTUS by Green-Mamba
project: DINOSAURIA
specimen 092

EUOPLOCEPHALUS TUTUS
"Secured Well Armored Head"
Lambe, 1910 (originally Stereocephalus Lambe, 1902)
Length: 6m (20ft)
Weight: 2 tonnes (2.2 tons)
Location: Alberta, Canada
Era: Campanian age, upper Cretaceous (76 million years ago)

Classification:
Dinosauria
Ornithischia
Thyreophora
Thyreophoroidea
Ankylosauria
Ankylosauridae
Ankylosaurinae

Notes:
The scientifically best known Ankylosaur, Euoplocephalus tutus, as it is currently understood, seems to have lasted nearly ten times longer than most dinosaur species, which typically lasted only a million or so years--it is thought by many paleontologists, however, that the species is over-lumped and that there is more species variation actually present than is immediately obvious.

Synonyms:
Scolosaurus Nopcsa, 1928
Anodontosaurus Sternberg, 1929
