The original discovery was very sparse--for this reason, it was originally thought to be a type of dromaeosaurid, mistaking its large, curved hand claw for the distinctive raptor toe claw. This seems to be a common mistake among other Neovenatorids as well--Fukuiraptor's close relative, Megaraptor, had the same problem.
